Starting over is never easy, especially in a new country, but Linda Zhang is making the most of life on Prince Edward Island with the help of PEI Connectors and SMART Connections workshop.
Zhang and her 12-year-old son immigrated from Dalian, China in November 2014.She became involved with PEI Connectors shortly after arriving.
“I needed to enhance my community connections and meet people and connect,” said Zhang.
The PEI Connectors Program, an initiative of the Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce, helps new Islanders who want to start, buy or invest in a business by introducing them to people in the local business community.
PEI Connectors offers a variety of advisory, networking, and research-based services. The program offers many opportunities to make new connections through guest speakers and workshops.
“We were very pleased to partner with KC Collect and create this opportunity for our clients” stated Jason Lee, program coordinator with PEI Connectors. “Krista Walsh combines her dynamic personality with her strong ethics for business in her program.”
Zhang attended the SMART Connections workshop facilitated by PEI entrepreneur Krista Walsh of KC Collect. The SMART Connections program was developed by Walsh in partnership with local businessman, Jeff Cooke, Moosehead Breweries President, Andrew Oland and international speaker and coach, Joseph Sherren.
As a young businesswoman, Walsh knows how difficult making the right connections can be and hopes the tools she offers in her SMART Connections workshop open doors for new entrepreneurs.
“Networking and making connections is a vital part of any successful person, especially an entrepreneur,” said Walsh, “And this workshop teaches people, like Linda, the skills needed to be successful in their professional and personal lives. It’s about making the connection.”
“Linda was the perfect participant in our SMART Connections workshop. She utilizes the skills that she learned everyday,” Walsh continued. “She has developed stronger relationships and broadened her community connections. I am very pleased to see her succeed here on PEI.
Since attending the workshop offered by PEI Connectors, Zhang has attended Fusion Class and trivia and has been snowshoeing, ice skating and curling with her ever expanding network.
“Krista’s handshake style and method of name remembering are impressive to me. The SMART Connections workshop gave me confidence to meet new people, despite the language barriers. I would love to share this experience with other newcomers,” Zhang said. “It is an interesting, fun, audience-focused program, full of laughter. And Krista’s positive and charming personality as she interacts with you, gives you a warm and confident feeling to make the connections.”
